Code
of Ethics
This code of ethics is designed to inform practitioners of the ethical
standards expected of them while working at the Gnadenfrei Centre. It
is complementary to the codes of ethics prepared by individual practitioners
professional associations.
Gnadenfrei expects that practitioners will adhere to the following code
of ethics:
Professional Ethics
- be aware of and practice according to the ethical codes of their
own profession.
- be respectful of other practitioners and of the diversity of the
training and therapeutic methods used by other practitioners
- not solicit the clients of other practitioners, nor accept payment
for referrals
- recognize the limits of their own professional competence and refer
clients on where this would be in the clients best interests
- ensure clients have a copy of the Gnadenfrei Privacy and Confidentiality
code of practice
- monitor their own interpersonal effectiveness and continue to maintain
and develop their professional competence
- have adequate professional indemnity insurance and renew it annually
- act in accordance with Gnadenfrei goals, policies and procedures
and when necessary work to improve these through honest open conversation
with the Director and management team.
- ensure the security of client files
- pay all accounts by due date.
Client Relationship Ethics
- respect the fundamental rights of clients to privacy and confidentiality
and explain to them any limits of confidentiality particularly those
that relate to duty of care
- provide clients with reasonable access to information contained in
their file.
Centre Ethics
- respect the inherent humanity, dignity and worth of all persons
- avoid any discrimination based on religion, ethnicity, culture, disability,
gender, age, sexual orientation, marital status or socio-economic group
- see all clients referred to them by Gnadenfrei at the Centre unless
prior arrangement is made with the Director.
- obtain the informed consent of their clients to the service being
provided including the financial arrangements related to the provision
of their services
- avoid the potential exploitation of clients and dual relationships,
through the maintenance of clear professional boundaries
- ensure a high standard of occupational safety and hygiene is maintained
- represent their practice and the Gnadenfrei centre services in an
honest, accurate way
- refer clients within Gnadenfrei whenever this is appropriate.
